Choosing a travel destination is notoriously tough. Whether you’re a lone wanderer or a family of four, deciding on a destination from the myriad of already established and newly emerging options can bring out the worst in you.
Whether you’re an international globetrotter or a South African sightseer, Cape Town has all the makings of a truly world class travel destination. Let the city’s unparalleled natural beauty, top-notch facilities and sites, celebrated history and heritage and embracing locals form the foundations of a truly unforgettable and uniquely South Africa holiday.
Cape Town Tourism, the city’s official tourism bureau, plays a crucial facilitating role in the region’s tourism sector by cultivating love for the Mother City. Through its multi-faceted approach towards brand promotion, the bureau has managed to take the city’s tourism sector to new heights both domestically and internationally.
The brand’s innovative efforts align with their belief that the only constant in the global tourism industry is, in fact, change. Two of the bureau’s most recent campaigns have brought immense success to the tourism sector in the region.
“It is of vital importance to change your brand in order to remain relevant in an ever-changing industry.”

Whether you prefer indoors or outdoors, sporting events or cultural experiences, the captivating city of Cape Town has something for everyone. Cape Town Tourism enables tourists to see what is happening in Cape Town, plan their weekend and enjoy all the city has to offer. The bureau’s Hello Weekend campaign was launched in 2015 with the aim of encouraging domestic and regional visitation in off-peak periods by offering affordable weekend packages.
Cape Town Tourism has selected a range of activities and events happening in and around Cape Town, and has created various weekend packages with different themes and points of interests to cater for everyone’s needs. These packages start from only R2750 per person, and include return flights from Johannesburg, car rental and accommodation and align with major events in each category. Package categories include:
- Family & Friends
- Food & Culture
- Nightlife & Romance
- Sport & Outdoors
- Treat Yourself
Each category has various weekend packages from which tourists can select according to their preferences. For example, the “Family & Friends” category includes packages such as the “Besties Breakaway Weekend”, the “Boys Weekend”, and the “Pink Weekend”, to name a few.
Neighbourhoods video series
In 2016, Cape Town Tourism released an array of professionally produced, insightful and action-provoking videos, which provide tourists with a glimpse of the history and culture that shaped the various neighbourhoods in and around Cape Town.
The Love Cape Town Neighbourhoods video series will captivate any viewer and leave them eager to discover the hidden gems that the various areas, including townships such as Khayelitsha and Langa, offer. The videos aim to visualise the company’s “travel like a local” marketing approach and create awareness amongst tourists of both popular and less frequented areas in and around the city.
Cape Town Tourism has exploited the increasing popularity of neighbourhood tourism by the release of its video series. The series encourages both domestic and international tourists to visit areas that offer great variety in terms of heritage, arts and culture, restaurants, accommodation and other tourism-based activities. Increasing awareness of these areas amongst tourists positively impacts the area’s local economy and alleviates poverty in poorer neighbourhoods by creating a host of jobs in the tourism sector.
The video series further aims to challenge the narrow and preconceived notions that tourists have of the respective areas by portraying what local neighbourhoods have on offer. The series invites tourists to learn that Cape Town’s product offering transcends the few experiences captured in brochures, and that there are ample unique and enjoyable experiences to be explored in and around the Mother City.
These two campaigns, combined with the bureau’s immensely popular and interactive Love Cape Town social media accounts, easily navigable and informative website and newly released mobile application have brought much success to brand and the local tourism sector in general.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your phone, select a package and indulge in all the city of Cape Town has to offer!
